Day 11- June 12, 2008

Nothing crazy today. Western Sandpipers have made their way to out plots the last few days, I saw my first ones today. I managed to find another two Dunlin nests. I also had three more weasels. We figured them to be Least Weasels instead of Short-tailed. Least are not supposed to be up here or very rarely. They had no black tip to their tail, and I even saw a mostly white one, again without a black tip to the tail. I actually caught the white one! It was pretty fast, and bit me when I picked him up. Luckily I had my gloves on, so it shielded the bite some, but I don't think he could do much damage. It was about the size of my hand, really small for a weasel! Then, after it couldn't get away, it peed all over my gloves. I knew I took 2 pairs of gloves out for a reason.

I also found this really sweet plant. I think it looks really cool. I haven't seen that many of them out there. It is called a Woolly Lousewart. Looks almost like a tiny cactus.

The last of the snow surveys should be tomorrow, and more nest searching!

The internet here is really bad and won't let me update my website very often. The field season is picking up, so updates may come every couple days.
